6. Will I loose my personal data if I uninstall the program?
7. Why isn't the program running on Windows Vista when I had it running on Windows XP?

Q1. What if I lost my user name or passcode?

A.  You must uninstall and reinstall the program. All user data except records saved as .html files will be lost. Follow these steps.

To Reinstall After Losing Your User Name Or Passcode

  1. Uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel.
  2. Click the Start menu with the right mouse button and select Explore
  3. Click your Attendant Manager program data folder.

Note: The program data folder is the installation folder on all platforms except Windows Vista or later, which likely use a subfolder of C:\ProgramData (you may have to adjust settings and privileges to view this folder). The data folder also in appears on the Documents tab in User Settings.

  4. Click the AttenMan.dat file with the right mouse button and select Delete.
  5. Run your AttendantManager.msi file and reinstall the program.

When you run Attendant Manager for the first time, you will be prompted for a master user name and passcode. Use that user name and passcode to access the program thereafter. Keep the information in a safe place to avoid reinstallation and data loss. Index

Q2. I just purchased the program and want to download and keep a copy of my program key?

A.  Use the Registration Wizard to download the program key and use Windows Explorer to paste a copy of the program key with your setup file. Follow these steps.

To Download Your Program Key

  1. Run the AttendantManager.msi file to install the program (if you haven't already).
  2. Complete the First Run Wizard (if you haven't already).
  3. Connect to the Internet (outside the program).
  4. Select Register from the Help Menu.
  5. Select the option I have already purchased...
  6. Click Continue to begin the download.

After following the steps above, the AttenMan.key file is downloaded into your program data folder. To keep a copy of the program key with your setup files, follow the steps below.

To Store Your Program Key With Your Setup File

  1. Click the Start menu with the right mouse button and select Explore.
  2. Select the Attendant Manager program data folder.

Note: The program data folder is the installation folder on all platforms except Windows Vista or later, which likely use a subfolder of C:\ProgramData (you may have to adjust settings and privileges to view this folder). The folder also appears on the Documents tab in User Settings.

  3. Click the AttenMan.key file with the right mouse button and select Copy.
  4. Use the right mouse button to click the folder where you keep your AttendantManager.msi file and select Paste.

After following the steps above, the AttenMan.key file is copied to the folder containing your program setup files. The program must find the AttenMan.key file in the program data folder to run as a registered copy. If you deleted your program data folder, you will have copy the program key back into the data folder for the program to run again as registered.

Note: The AttenMan.key file is an encrypted file that must be in the program's folder to allow the software to be used for an unlimited time. Please be sure to keep a copy of the file in a safe place in case the download service is unavailable in the distant future.

Q3. The program won't work on my computer?

A.  Attendant Manager™ is supported on all Microsoft Windows 95 or later desktop platforms for PCs. Windows CE and mobile editions of Windows are not supported. If the program won't run, it is because one of the following:

  1. Attendant Manager has already been installed for the trial period on your computer. Register the program for continued use or, if you have already registered, copy your program key into the program data folder

Note: The program data folder is the installation folder on all platforms except Windows Vista or later, which likely use a subfolder of C:\ProgramData (you may have to adjust settings and privileges to view this folder). The folder also appears on the Documents tab in User Settings.

  2. The installation has become invalid. Select the program in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and select Repair to fix the problem
  3. Your computer does not have sufficient resources to run the program. Run a performance monitoring program to confirm the problem. Try the Resource Meter on Win9x or the Performance tab of Task Manager on NT/2K/XP/Vista or later platforms. If the problem is insufficient resources, you must upgrade your computer.
  4. You are running Windows Vista or later and the program is not running with administrator privileges. The program must be run as an administrator for full control over user created documents. To fix the problem, right click AttenMan.exe in the program install folder and check Run program as an administrator. Press the button for all users and make the same selection.

If you are still unable to get the program running properly, email technical support for a solution. Index

Q4. Why do I get "Error identifying registered owner from Registry" when I run the program?

A.  Attendant Manager™ is attempting to read the registry and is unable to do so. The most likely cause is third-party software installed on your computer ristricting access to the registry or registry data is missing or invalid. To fix the problem, use the software to give Attendant Manager read/write access to the registry. If that fails, email technical support, for a solution.Index

Q5. What does it mean to update the Windows registered owner name?

A.  Platforms earlier than Windows Vista allow registered users the option to update their Windows owner name to make it easier to run the program on all their Windows platforms. The program cannot determine, nor does it check, whether your copy of Windows is genuine.  Index

Q6. Will I loose my personal data if I uninstall the program?

A. If you are running version 3.5 or later, you can uninstall and reinstall without loosing your personal data provided you reinstall into the same folder and you do not delete any of your personal data (for Windows Vista or later you can reinstall into any folder and resume with user data).

Q7. Why isn't the program running on Windows Vista when I had it running on Windows XP?

A. You must upgrade to version 3.7 and run the installer while logged in as a user with administrator privileges. If it is still not working or you receive error messages, ensure the AttenMan.exe file has administrator privileges for all users. The program must be run as an administrator for full control over user created documents. Follow the instructions below to be sure the program is running with administrator privileges.

To Run Attendant Manager With Administrator Privileges

  1. Right click the Start menu and select Explore
  2. Navigate to the program's installation folder
  3. Right click AttenMan.exe and select Properties
  4. Select the Compatibility tab
  5. Check Run program as an administrator
  6. Press the button for all users and make the same selection
  7. Press OK to close the dialogs

If the still will not run or you are receiving error messages, contact technical support for a solution. Index

How To Upgrade   top

Upgrades are supported for registered users only.

If you are running Windows Vista or later, you must log in as a user with administrator privileges to complete the upgrade.

To upgrade and resume with previous user data, uninstall from Control Panel and reinstall into the previous installation folder (or in any folder for Vista or later). To resume without user data, delete all files and subfolders in the program data folder (except AttenMan.key) before reinstalling.

Note: The program data folder is the installation folder on all platforms except Windows Vista or later, which likely use a subfolder of C:\ProgramData (you may have to adjust settings and privileges to view this folder). The folder appears on the program's Documents tab in User Settings.

Thank you everybody for your input on improving Attendant Manager.
