Updates top

If Help About does not show version 3.6.1, upgrade for new features and fixes. The upgrade is not available for trial users, but registered users may upgrade for free.

Version 3.6.1 fixed the following in version 3.6:

  1. The user interface for Attendants instead of Master users appearing on first run when no license key is found.
  2. Incorrect rounding of some FIT amounts in the Federal Tax Editor, e.g. .75 rounded to .80.
  3. Runtime error for some platforms when attempting to register or open documents.
  4. Minor fixes and adjustments in the graphical user interface.

Simply uninstall from Control Panel and reinstall to continue with all your user data.

Note: The first build of this revision was over 6MB. Adjustments brought the size down to 4.2MB with no difference in the installed product.

Q1. What if I lost my user name or passcode?

A.  You must uninstall and reinstall the program. All user data except records saved as .html files will be lost. Follow these steps.

To Reinstall After Losing Your User Name Or Passcode

  1. Uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel.
  2. Click the Start menu with the right mouse button and select Explore
  3. Click your Attendant Manager program folder.
  4. Click the AttenMan.dat file with the right mouse button and select Delete.
  5. Run your AttendantManager.msi file and reinstall the program.

When you run Attendant Manager for the first time, you will be prompted for a master user name and passcode. Use that user name and passcode to access the program thereafter. Keep the information in a safe place to avoid reinstallation and data loss. Index

Q2. I just purchased the program and want to download and keep a copy of my program key?

A.  Use the Registration Wizard to download the program key and use Windows Explorer to paste a copy of the program key with your setup file. Follow these steps.

To Download Your Program Key

  1. Run the AttendantManager.msi file to install the program (if you haven't already).
  2. Complete the First Run Wizard (if you haven't already).
  3. Connect to the Internet (outside the program).
  4. Select Register from the Help Menu.
  5. Select I have already purchased...
  6. Click Continue to begin the download.

After following the steps above, the AttenMan.key file is downloaded into your program folder. To keep a copy of the program key with your setup files, follow the steps below.

To Store Your Program Key With Your Setup File

  1. Click the Start menu with the right mouse button and select Explore.
  2. Select the Attendant Manager program folder.
  3. Click the AttenMan.key file with the right mouse button and select Copy.
  4. Use the right mouse button to click the folder where you keep your AttendantManager.msi file and select Paste.

After following the steps above, the AttenMan.key file is copied to the folder containing your program setup files. Each time you install the program you must copy the AttenMan.key file into the program folder so it will run as registered.

Note: The AttenMan.key file is an encrypted file that must be in the program's folder to allow the software to be used for an unlimited time. Please be sure to keep a copy of the file in a safe place in case the download service is unavailable in the distant future.

Q3. The program won't work on my computer?

A.  Attendant Manager™ is supported on all Microsoft Windows 95 or later desktop platforms for PCs. Windows CE and mobile editions of Windows are not supported. If the program won't run, it is because one of the following:

  1. Attendant Manager has already been installed for the trial period on your computer. Register the program for continued use or, if you have already registered, copy your program key into the program folder
  2. The installation has become invalid. Run the program's installer from Control Panel and select Repair to fix the problem
  3. Your computer does not have sufficient resources to run the program. Run a performance monitoring program to confirm the problem. Try the Resource Meter on Win9x or the Performance tab of Task Manager on NT/2K/XP or later platforms. If the problem is insufficient resources, you must upgrade your computer.

Q4. Why do I get "Error identifying registered owner from Registry" when I run the program?

A.  Attendant Manager™ is attempting to read the registry and is unable to do so. The most likely cause is third-party software installed on your computer ristricting access to the registry or registry data is missing or invalid. To fix the problem, use the software to give Attendant Manager read/write access to the registry. If that fails, email technical support, for a solution.Index

Q5. What does it mean to update the Windows registered owner name?

A.  Attendant Manager allows registered users the option to update their Windows owner name to make it easier to run the program on all their Windows platforms. The program cannot determine, nor does it check, whether your copy of Windows is genuine.  Index

Q6. Will I loose my personal data if I uninstall the program?

A. If you are running version 3.5 or later, you can uninstall and reinstall without loosing your personal data provided you reinstall into the same folder and you do not delete any of your personal data.

If you are running version 3.0 or earlier, you must make backup copies of the AttenMan.dat and FedTaxes.dat files before uninstalling and copy them back into the program folder after reinstalling.

Q7. Why isn't the program running on Windows Vista when I had it running on Windows XP?

A. A common reason applications fail to port to Windows Vista is application permissions, especially when Windows Vista is being run with multiple user accounts. Try verifying the security settings on the program's folder by doing the following:

  1. Log on as a user who has administrative credentials, and then use Windows Explorer to open the application's folder.
  2. Right-click the application's folder, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Security tab, click Edit. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  4. Under Group or user names, click your user account.
  5. Under Permissions for Users, click Allow for the following permissions:
    • Modify
    • Read & Execute
    • List Folder Contents
    • Read
    • Write
  6. Click OK.
